Every family has a serving dish nobody can identify and a story everyone tells slightly differently.

The CLEAR Kit and the book are about what a family inherits: the accounts, the documents, the decisions. Heirloom & Tell is about the other half, which is what a family loses. The stories, the recipes, the voice, the reason there is a photograph of your grandfather standing next to a car he never owned.

People mean to ask. They assume there is time. Then the person who knew is gone and what is left is three competing versions and nobody to settle it.

How it works

It asks. That is the whole trick.

A storyteller answers questions about their life by writing, by talking, or on video, whichever is easiest for them, and the questions get better as it learns what it is dealing with. It follows up. It notices when an answer opens a door and asks about that instead of moving on to the next item on a list.

What comes out is a private StorySite: the stories, the photographs, the people, the belongings and who they came from, the recipes with the notes in the margin. Family can be invited in. It can be printed as a StoryBook.

Private by default. Nothing is public, there are no public share links, and a family member has to sign in to see anything at all. That is a deliberate constraint rather than a setting, and it does not have an off switch.

Why it exists

Because the questions are the hard part. Sitting down with a parent and a blank page does not work. Being asked “what did your mother smell like” does.
